My White Best Friend (and other letters left unsaid) – The Royal Court
In July 2020 as a response to the black lives matter movement in the UK (and covid restrictions), The Royal Court – a theatre venue in London – presented its on-line festival, My white friend (and other letters left unsaid). Running over a week, a daily livestreamed performance included a pre-recorded reading of a letter by Rachel De-Lahay alongside two letters read and performed live by actors. All of the actors reading / performing the fictional letters live, did so without rehearsal so like the audience members they were performing to, they were experiencing them for the first time. The performances were presented via Zoom with some of the audience able to see each other, helping to create the ‘Theatre’ experience.
