Museums at home – York Museums
A dedicated micro-site, branded ‘Museums at Home’ hosts the digital offer from the York Museum Trust. Like many museums during the closures of 2020, a dedicated web space was created but is not readily accessible from the main website landing page (a search is required to locate it). The microsite included links to other pages offering visitors 360 views from York museum locations (Via Google Arts), Videos of exhibitions and customised websites (Via Google Arts). The Museums ‘At Home’ brand stood out from similar digital offers with its use of social media and the user generated content during the closures period to keep its visitors interested. As a result of that activity, The York museum trended on twitter and gained international notoriety with its weekly competition #curatorbattle to prompt other Museums to share unique works from their galleries. Each week would see a different theme such as, creepiest, sassiest and star object. The threads achieved mainstream media and press coverage.
