Edinburgh International Festival

During 2020, the Edinburgh international festival moved on-line in response to covid restrictions. The festival was able to present 26 specially staged opera, classical and ballet performances involving about 500 artists, musicians and technical staff. Past in-person Edinburgh festival’s had typically attracted around 420,000 people but the 2020 digital festival reached to over 50 different countries and productions were viewed 1.013m times. Like many other festivals, following the success of the 2020 on-line version, organisers have suggested that future events will continue to have an increased digital offer. The festival website has a dedicated area, branded ‘at home’ to facilitate virtual visitors attending its ticketed events.
